The New York Police Department has a long history of illegally surveilling private citizens that are abiding by the law. With this in mind, last October a Manhattan judge rejected a proposed settlement over the Police Dept.'s surveillance of Muslim citizens saying that it was insufficiently protective.
Last week, in March, the Judge approved a new revised agreement. The new one still gives the PD freedom to pursue legal counter-terrorism stuff but includes additional oversight that serves to better protect the Muslim community against the illegal tactics of snooping.
